Mobile home damaged in Appomattox County fire

This afternoon just before 3 p.m., a fire broke out at a mobile home in Appomattox County, causing damage to the kitchen area.

Local emergency crews responded to a 911 call regarding a fire at 119 Pebble Court, located off Central Church Road.

According to Appomattox County Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett, a woman who lives at the residence went to a neighbor's house to call 911 after a fire started in the kitchen around the stove area. The official cause of the fire is under investigation.

Garrett said the woman, who was the only one at the residence as far as he is aware, was examined by the Appomattox County Rescue Squad but was not harmed.

Garrett also said the fire initially spread to the kitchen cabinets and the kitchen ceiling. However, crews contained the situation rather quickly and pulled some siding off the outside of the mobile home to prevent the fire from spreading further.

At the scene were the Appomattox County Rescue Squad, Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department Tanker 5 and Engines 1 and 3, and Red House Volunteer Fire Department Tanker 93.
