Raider state championship teams honored with new signs

Two "Raiders State Champions" signs were recently erected to honor the accomplishments of Appomattox County High School teams that have won state championships in their respective competitions.

The two signs are placed at entrance points of the Town of Appomattox - one near the NAPA Auto Parts store on U.S. 460 East; the other at the location of the "Welcome to Appomattox" sign in front of Glory Baptist Church on Confederate Boulevard, also close to the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department building.

The signs were first proposed at an Appomattox County Board of Supervisors meeting in 2018 by VDOT employee and former ACHS graduate Bryan Page, who had been placing temporary signs in the town after the Raiders football team's state titles the last several years. Page created the original concept design for the new permanent signs.

Currently represented on the sign are ACHS state champions in football, softball, golf, boys outdoor track, theater and creative writing.
