The Concord Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) has developed a gear cleaning process that will hopefully reduce the risks of fire fighters getting cancer due to occupational hazards. 

Concord Fire Chief Stephen Hamlett, an eight-year crew member who was recently named chief, said that an important method of preventing cancer is keeping fire gear clean because chemicals remain on the gear after an assignment and emit gasses into the air for days.
