American Legion Post 104

A cannon is on display in front of the American Legion Post 104 building in Appomattox.

The American Legion is celebrating 100 years of service to its military men and women, their spouses and children. Appomattox’s Post 104 will be commemorating the event at 6:30 p.m. March 25 at their regular meeting.

Post 104 has been serving veterans and their families since 1919 — that’s 100 years and as long as the American Legion has been around. It’s a fact that local veterans such as Buck Owen take pride in.

Owen, a longtime member and leader in the American Legion, served in the Navy for 28 years, from the time he was 17.
