Fire destroys Appomattox County barn

Tonight a small barn has been destroyed in Appomattox County.

At approximately 8 p.m., the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 105 Humbles Farm Road, located off of State Route 615 between Oakville and Gladstone. The barn was fully engulfed in flames.

Fire crews gained control of the fire quickly and then worked to tear the tin outer covering off of what remained of the burned wooden frame. The barn was located in a partially wooded area near the home on the property.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

According to AVFD Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett, the exact cause of the fire was not determined at the time of this report.

The owner of the property, Arshag Humbles, was home at the time of the blaze. Humbles said the barn was probably 16 x 20 feet in size.

Assisting at the scene were personnel from the Gladstone Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, and AVFD engines 1, 2, 3, and Tanker 5.
