At the Appomattox Town Council workshop that was held Sept. 24, the council discussed fireworks for next year’s July 4 season.

Town Manager Gary Shanaberger said he collected two quotes for July 3 fireworks.

He said the cost of having a fireworks show on July 4 came out to $20,000 — and that was the best price he could find, he said. Hence consideration of a July 3 fireworks display.

July 3 is a Friday. Shanaberger said one quote came out to $10,000, and the other came out to $6,980. Both companies were responsive, he said, and seemed pleasant to work with.

Shanaberger said he’s received a favorable response regarding the idea of a fireworks show for the town. It remains to be seen what the townspeople will think of the cost.

He suggested the town budget for some advertising funds to make sure folks understood it would be July 3.
