Joe Foxwell, Appomattox resident and World War II veteran, was recognized and thanked for his service at the ceremony commemorating the 75th Anniversary of D-Day at the D-Day Memorial in Bedford on Thursday.
Accompanied by Bill Burke of American Legion Post 104, Foxwell was one of over 100 World War II veterans of “The Greatest Generation” attending the event with the keynote address by Vice President Mike Pence.
Hunt Hamilton, also a member of Post 104 and of “The Greatest Generation,” served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, in the infantry as a gunner for the 81 MM mortar.
