At approximately 7 p.m. tonight, an SUV overturned on Rt. 460 East in Spout Spring, sending one man to the hospital.
According to a Virginia State Police trooper at the scene, the driver of a blue 2010 Nissan Armada lost control of the vehicle across from Snapps Mill Road.
The Nissan veered off the right side of the road, sloshed forward through the wet grassy area and overturned at the edge of the woods below the railroad tracks. A "One Way" road sign was also flattened in the accident.
No other vehicles were involved.
The driver, according to the trooper, said he lost control due to hydroplaning on the wet highway.
Appomattox County Rescue Squad transported the man to Lynchburg General Hospital. Injury status was unknown at the time of this report, but the driver was conscious and aware.
The driver has been identified as 36-year-old Michael Layne, of Appomattox.
Police said he has been charged with reckless driving.
Also assisting at the scene were Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department Engines 1, 3, and Crash Unit 9, the Appomattox County Sheriff's Department, and Phelps Garage Inc. Towing and Transports.
