Late night fire destroys Pamplin barn

A late night fire quickly destroyed an old barn on the 1200 block of Little Cub Road in Pamplin on Monday.

An emergency call to Appomattox County emergency services came in at approximately 11 p.m. as someone spotted flames in the wooded area. Within minutes, the barn was reported as being down and fully engaged.

Pamplin Fire Chief Shane Richardson, who lives nearby, was first to arrive at the scene. The Pamplin Volunteer Fire Department called off Appomattox crews because the fire was contained.

Richardson and Pamplin Assistant Fire Chief Damien Bailey said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but lightning is suspected because of storms that hit the area during the night.

As of midnight, Pamplin firemen were still working to put out any potential hot spots.

The barn was completely destroyed. It was not immediately clear who owns the property on which the barn was located.
