Wreck in front of Hardee's

An Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department crew member cleans up glass on U.S. Route 460 in front of Hardee’s in Appomattox County after the door of the 2000 GMC Sierra was forced open. The GMC pulled out onto the highway and was struck by a 2009 Cadillac SUV.

Two vehicles collided around 11 a.m. today, smashing in the door of one and damaging the front corner of another on U.S. Route 460 in front of Hardee's in Appomattox County.

The Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department sent the Crash 9 team, who had to force the door of the 2000 GMC Sierra open. They also sent Engine 3.

Kinkle Campbell, the driver of the GMC, pulled out from Hardee's when he was struck by a 2009 Cadillac SUV, according to the Virginia State Police. Campbell didn’t see the other vehicle when he pulled out, said the trooper who responded to the call.

An Appomattox County Rescue Squad ambulance took the driver of the Cadillac to the hospital with possible minor injuries.

Campbell refused medical assistance and was charged with failure to yield the right of way, according to the trooper.

Also responding was the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office.

Donnie’s Wrecker Service arrived and towed the GMC.
