A man was charged with a misdemeanor after he allegedly shot another person’s dog after his child reportedly was bit by the chained dog Sunday in Appomattox County.
According to Appomattox County Sheriff Barry Letterman today, an individual went to visit someone and had his child with him. The child allegedly was bitten by a dog on a chain, so the individual talks to some other adults and allegedly decides to shoot the dog.
The owner was notified, and a complaint was received about the shooting the same day.
Letterman confirmed that the alleged dog bite was not reported to authorities before the shooting.
After an investigation by the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office and discussion with the Commonwealth Attorney's Office, a deputy served a warrant, charging Benjamin Lewis George with killing an animal in an inhumane manner, which is a class 1 misdemeanor.
