One female is being flown to a hospital after a single vehicle crash in Appomattox County.
As a result of the accident, which occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Old Courthouse Road near the intersection of Holiday Lake Road, the female suffered a broken ankle, according to a Virginia State Police trooper at the scene.
The vehicle ended up in the woods after going down an embankment at the side of the northbound lane. Rescue workers cut through several tree branches for easier access to the vehicle. The injured female was a passenger, according to Appomattox County Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett.
The names of the female and male driver, who was reportedly uninjured, and the make and model of the vehicle were not yet disclosed at the time of this report. Updates will be provided when available.
The female was conscious and speaking with the trooper.
An Appomattox County Rescue Squad ambulance received the injured female when she was pulled from the crash on a stretcher. The ambulance then traveled south to meet a Centra Heath emergency helicopter in a field near the crash site to transfer the patient. The destination of the helicopter has not been provided at this time.
Also arriving at the scene were AVFD Crash 9 and Engine 3, along with Buckingham County Volunteer Fire Department Toga Division Crash 34. Litchford's Garage & Towing handled the removal of the vehicle.
