As the Page Turns

Fall is finally here, and there is no better way to spend the earlier evenings than curling up with a good book or movie from the J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library. We have lots of titles to choose from including; family and horror films, DIY and recipes books to make holiday gifts, or learn the latest decorating style from magazines.

We are  here to help you with your no cost educational and entertainment needs. We have lots of upcoming family and adult programs for the Fall/Winter season. Be sure to check out our Facebook page, the local newspapers and radio stations for the latest and updated events and information.

For last week’s (Sept. 26) Story & Craft Time, we had a surprise waiting for the kids: K-9 units and their trainers! These canine teams meet annually in Appomattox, from all across the Country.

Today we had Office Bryan Tabaczynski and his dog Bronx (from Florida), Lori Miller and her dog Ces (from Maryland), and Kate Brock along with her dog Murphy (from Tennessee). They educated the kids on the purpose of each dog’s specialty and let the kids ask questions and pet the dogs, except Bronx, as he was “on duty.”

Library employee Katharine Bloodworth read the book “The Hallo-Wiener” by Dav Pilkey. We followed up by making an accordion folded wiener dog that we colored and decorated with a witches hat embellished with buttons and ribbons.

We would like to thank the patron who donated some craft supplies so that we could make our “hallo-wieners” look extra special and dressed up for the season. We would also like to thank an ACLA (Appomattox County Library Association) member for providing the snacks and juice.

In observance of the Railroad Day weekend and Columbus Day, the library will be closed on Friday, Oct. 11 through Monday, Oct. 14. We will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. Our book depository will be closed during this time.
