Two nights after falling to the Gretna Hawks in three sets on the Hawks' home court, the Appomattox Raiders volleyball team returned home Thursday to turn the tables and sink the Dan River Wildcats in three sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-19).
The Raiders got off to fast starts in all three sets but the Wildcats always managed to claw their way back into the game.
Front liners Rebekah Stowe and Emily Butts gave the Raiders some fits. However, Appomattox proved too strong to overcome on this night as they improved their season record to 7-2.
Hayley Carrico had a solid overall performance with 5 offensive kill shots and 6 digs on defense.
Abbey Mann led the Raiders in scoring with 7 kills. She also tied Carrico and Lexi Fulcher to lead the team with 6 digs.
Cameron Womack was, as usual, the offensive catalyst with 20 serve points, 7 serve aces and 21 assists while providing a team-leading 3 blocked shots on defense.
Appomattox travels to Chatham on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and faces William Campbell at home on Oct. 3.
Dan River (4-6) travels to George Washington on Monday night.
