On Wednesday night, the Appomattox Raiders boys basketball team held off a late surge by the Amherst Lancers to win 68-59.
Appomattox trailed 37-35 in the third quarter until Casey Scruggs nailed three consecutive 3-pointers to put the Raiders up 44-40. Scruggs finished with 23 points, including five shots from beyond the arch.
After Amherst erased a 9-point deficit to take a 57-56 lead in the fourth quarter, Scruggs struck gold again when he sunk his other two 3-pointers to give the Raiders a lead they would not relinquish.
The Raiders travel to William Campbell on Friday.
