On Oct. 15, the Appomattox Middle School’s eighth grade class traveled to the Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) main campus. This was an eye-opening experience that offered informal and entertaining learning opportunities for the eighth graders. The students visited a variety of corporations and occupations including the medical field, manufacturing, and engineering. All of the volunteers that were helping were very kind, patient, and informative.
Students arrived by bus to CVCC and were welcomed with warmth, even if it had been one of the coldest days in our region so far this fall. Stations were situated throughout the campus, and each was based on different fields of work. The stations included many demonstrations of how that particular work was done. Some of these presentations included manual labor, designing, mechanics, and medical demonstrations. All of the booths were very organized and had a good representation of what their business was.
