The Appomattox Senior FFA chapter recently hosted the first “Drive A Tractor to School Day” parade. The event was held to draw attention to agricultural tractor road safety and kick off the chapter’s National Agriculture Week festivities. Student leaders coordinated the event and invited members of the Appomattox County Farm Bureau and the Appomattox FFA Alumni to participate.
In the wee hours of the morning on Friday, March 15, participants congregated outside of Virginia MetalFab. Fifteen tractors were in the parade. The tractors were escorted by the Appomattox Sherriff’s Office. They meandered through the 2.8-mile stretch to the Appomattox County High School. Many spectators lined the route to cheer on the students and farmers in the parade.
After the 20-minute parade, event participants gathered in the agricultural shop for a light breakfast. The breakfast was sponsored by Cole’s Timberland Management, Colonial Farm Credit, Dark Leaf Farms, First Bank and Trust, Promise Land Farm, and Village Print Shop.
