Local FCCLA students awarded at state event

The following students and staff, as part of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) at Appomattox County High School, competed in the FCCLA Virginia State STAR event on April 1. The students spent four days in Virginia Beach participating in lectures, competitions, seminars and meeting fellow FCCLA members from across the state.

ACHS students did very well. Teachers leading the local FCCLA are Amanda Howard and Ronda Matthews. Promyse Hodge was the team’s mentor. Names and their placement in their specific categories are listed below:

Danielle Henry and Shante Jones: 1st in Sports Nutrition

Jazmine Klinedinst: 1st in Career Investigation

Angel Phillis and Jahiem Revely: 3rd in Entrepreneurship

Klinedinst’s mother, Sherry, submitted the following statement in regard to her daughter’s achievements:

“I would like to congratulate my daughter, Jazmine Klinedinst, on many amazing achievements that she has worked so hard to accomplish. Having straight A’s every year of her academic career so far. I applaud her tenacity, drive and commitment as she works toward her goal of becoming an Occupational Therapist. She placed first in her category of career exploration at the 2022 VA FCCLA state STAR events this month. She has been accepted into the early college/dual enrollment program with CVCC starting next fall. She is also the first student from Appomattox County High School to be invited to attend the 2022 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s School (SRGS), a highly selective, month-long, college-like, residential program for selected gifted and talented high school students. Her father and I, as well as the rest of the family and many friends and staff of ACHS, are very proud of her and wish her great success.”
