Mary Clarine Kestner Mays, 93, of Appomattox, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2022. She was born on December 30, 1928, a daughter of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Mary Franklin Kestner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Jesse Mays, and by her son and only child, Warren Thomas Mays, as well as her sister, Faye Bugg.

Clarine worked for the Appomattox Garment Company for many years and was a member of Grace Hills Baptist Church. She loved to sew and quilt but will best be remembered for the many beautiful flowers, shrubs, and fruit trees that she grew and treasured. You could always find her outdoors either working in her garden or in her flower beds and she was always happy to share her flowers with family and friends and with the church for the altar on Sundays.

Clarine is survived by her three grandsons, Timothy, Ryan, and Jesse Mays and by her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Mays, all of Christiansburg, Va. She is also survived by her two sisters, Evelyn Chernault and Frances Guill both of Appomattox, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Babcock Manor for their six years of loving care and devotion to Clarine.

A graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Liberty Cemetery with Pastor Lee Hendricks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Centra Hospice, 1705 E. 3rd Street, Farmville, VA, or to the charity of one's choice.
