The smell of gunpowder was in the air as the Virginia 4-H State Shoot took place at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center on Sept. 14-15. This was a well attended event, drawing competitors from all across Virginia.

There were over 325 shooters who competed in one or more of the following disciplines: .22 Rifle, .22 Pistol, BB, Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Archery, .22 & Air Rifle & Air Pistol Silhouette, Muzzleloader, Skeet, Trap, and Air Rifle Field Targets.

The Appomattox Shooting Education Club placed in many of the events either individually or as a team. The results are as follows:

BB: Brianna Goin, 3rd place individual. Also competing in this division: Cole Meador and Makinnley Meador.

Air Rifle Silhouettes: Competing in this division: Caroline Meyerhoffer, Cole Meador and Bryson Stone

Congratulations to the winners and to all who competed. With so many competitors and events, a wealth of volunteers are needed to run this event as efficiently and smoothly as possible — people to supervise and run the numerous shooting venues, to score targets, and input data, to just name a few of the many things the volunteers do. Our thanks go out to these volunteers, we could not do this without you!
