The Appomattox Raiders swimmers traveled to Bedford and Altavista last week in two Tri-meets against powerful schools, falling to Jefferson Forest (JF), Blacksburg and Franklin County, while topping Altavista for the third time this season.
On Jan. 11, in Bedford against JF and Blacksburg, senior Charlie Drinkard placed second in the boys 100-yard Backstroke for the best Raiders finish for the evening, followed by fifth in the boy’s 50-yard Freestyle. Senior Berkley Jamerson took fourth in the girls 50-and-500-yard Freestyle events.Â
While the Raider relay teams did not fare well point-wise, a new Appomattox school record time was established by the boys Medley Relay team of Charlie Drinkard, Conner Burton, Bennett Goodman and Clay Hamilton. The new time of 2:02.35 replaced a record established in 2018.Â
