The Appomattox Raiders softball team continued its dominance of the Dogwood District with two wins last week, a 20-0 home win Wednesday over the William Campbell Generals and an 11-0 road win Friday over the Altavista Colonels.

Appomattox improved to a 11-0 overall record, 6-0 in the Dogwood.

Against William Campbell, Courtney Layne did her best impression of Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani by blasting two home runs and starting the game on the pitching mound for Appomattox.

Layne’s first home run came in the bottom of the first inning with Kenadee McCullough and Macee Hargis on base to give the Raiders a quick 4-0 lead. Kelsey Hackett had scored the team’s first run on an RBI single by Hargis.

The Raiders pounded out four more runs in the first inning. Aubrey Fulcher’s infield single drove in Michaela Williams, Haleigh Tweedy’s triple to the left field wall brought Fulcher and Carrington Moore across home plate, and Hackett’s base hit scored Tweedy from third base.
