On Thursday, Appomattox Raiders indoor track and field athlete Nadiyah Abdussalaam won the state championship in the girls triple jump at the VHSL Class 2 Indoor Track and Field State Championships held at Liberty University. Abdussalaam won with a distance of 34 feet, 5.5 inches.

The Raider girls finished as the state runner up, barely edged out by Glenvar in a competition that wasn't decided until the final girls event of the day.
