The Appomattox Raiders girls soccer team continues to go undefeated with an 8-0 record after winning their last three games against the Mecklenburg Phoenix at home (4-2 on May 1), the Chatham Cavaliers on the road (8-0 on May 3) and Altavista Colonels at home (5-1 on Monday).

Appomattox plays today at Dan River.

Lyndsey Lawson struck first against the Phoenix with a score early in the first half but Angie Hernandez quickly evened the score with her own goal; both occurred within the first four minutes.

Ten minutes later, Lawson broke the tie with a kick to the upper left portion of the net past Phoenix goalie Jekaylah Degree.

Degree prevented a Raiders’ scoring opportunity with saves on two consecutive shots on one possession.

Near the end of the first half, Appomattox put up a strong defensive stand on a corner kick by the Phoenix to preserve the halftime lead.
