The Appomattox Raiders boys soccer team extended their winning streak to five in a row Monday, as they defeated Martinsville 3-0 in front of a lively crowd at Bragg Stadium, improving to 8-1 overall for the year and 4-0 in the Dogwood District.

The Raiders were coming off of a dominating win Friday at Altavista, where they defeated the Colonels 14-0, and knew that the Martinsville game would be a challenge. The Raiders beat the Colonels in the first game of the season 2-1 in a very tight contest.

“We know that we are a more talented team, and the challenges we face are mental,” said junior Raiders midfielder Corey Williams.

The Raiders were clearly mentally prepared for both games as they scored 10 goals in the first half against Altavista and dominated the Martinsville game from the start, maintaining possession and stringing together many passes in both contests.
