The Appomattox Town Council meeting held Monday was somewhat different than previous meetings. Council members were spread across the room in an effort to take social distancing seriously in light of COVID-19. The public was invited to attend the meeting via a video live stream on the town’s Facebook page.
Mayor Paul Harvey opened the meeting by stating it would be brief. And brief it was, spanning about 10 minutes long with only two items on the agenda.
The first item on the agenda was consideration to ratify the Mayor’s Declaration of Emergency. Harvey read the declaration out loud.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the declaration states that “the Town of Appomattox is facing conditions of extreme peril to the lives, health and safety of residents, which necessitates the proclamation of the existence of an emergency ...”
