Pierce Bryant, a Class of 2020 graduate of Appomattox County High School (ACHS), was a multi-sport athlete known for his competitive nature and aggressive style.

Bryant’s mountaintop accomplishment during his athletic career for the Raider sports program came in February 2019 when he earned the VHSL Class 2 State Wresting Championship in the 152-pound division.

Aside from wrestling, Bryant also was a member of the Raider boys soccer program and played for three different head coaches — Travis O’Brien, Mark Bowman and Evans Thomas.

In 2017, Bryant was a member of the boys soccer team that advanced to the VHSL Class 2 State Semifinal game in Radford.

The 2020 season, the first under Coach Thomas, was cut short after one pre-season scrimmage game because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which compelled Gov. Ralph Northam to close all schools and VHSL officials to cancel all spring sports.

Bryant agreed to do a Q&A-style interview with the Times Virginian as he moves forward with life after receiving his high school diploma during ACHS graduation ceremonies held May 27.
