Plover Paradise - Presentation
Please join the Margaret Watson Bird Club on Thursday, October 3, 2019 for an engaging program offered by Teta Kain. We’ll meet at the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library at 6:00 pm for refreshments and the program begins at 6:30 pm.
Teta will take us on an exploration of Virginia’s barrier islands when she presents her program, “Plover Paradise.” The setting for this adventure is the chain of barrier islands lying just off the coast of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Wild, desolate, wind-blown, and beautiful, the islands are places few Virginians ever visit. Piping Plover…..picture a little round bird with a black collar and orange bill scurrying along the sandy shore on yellow legs! It just doesn’t get much cuter than this!
For several summer seasons, Teta accompanied members of the Virginia Department of Game and inland Fisheries while they conducted their annual surveys of nesting birds on those islands. Teta Kain has been active in nature and conservation organizations since coming to Virginia in 1978, and she is a strong proponent of environmental protection. She served in many capacities on the board of directors of the Virginia Society of Ornithology, including president, secretary, chairman of the state bird records committee, and editor of the journal “The Raven.” She was the editor of Virginia's Christmas bird counts for both Virginia Society of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society for 37 years. She retired from that position in 2017.
Teta has been a wildlife photographer for over 40 years, and has traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world.
