Fire burns hay in Appomattox County

At approximately 6:35 pm. this evening, the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department responded to an emergency call for a hay fire at 1551 Narrow Passage Road.

The hay was located inside an open-air barn on the rural property. Along with damage to the hay, a seed planter inside the barn sustained damage. Appomattox Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett said the seed planter was not likely a total loss, however.

There appeared to be minimal damage to the barn structure, except for a lightly charred wooden vertical beam.

Garrett said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

There were no reported injuries.

Arriving at the scene were AVFD Engine 3 and Tanker 5, and the Appomattox County Sheriff's Department.
