On March 19, a deputy with the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office got out with a disabled vehicle on Richmond Highway within the County of Appomattox. The driver was identified as Donta Lavar McCoy of Appomattox.
While the deputy was assisting McCoy, he noticed a controlled substance paraphernalia on McCoy's person. The handler of K-9 Vergilio was alerted and arrived on scene and gave a positive alert on the vehicle.
A search was conducted on the vehicle, which resulted in McCoy being arrested and charged with the following:
- possession with the intent to sell 10 grams or more of methamphetamine
- possession with intent to sell cocaine
