Candlelight Ministries, a local food ministry for the elderly, held a fundraiser at the Appomattox Moose Lodge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16.
The fundraiser entailed the collection of used, new and gently worn shoes such as boots, sneakers, high heels and others.
Candlelight Ministries distributes food to the elderly who struggle to scrape by each month. They set up a parking lot pickup or conduct home deliveries — the latter for those who can’t drive.
While they’re based out of Appomattox County, their footprint goes beyond the county’s borders into Brookneal, Lynchburg, Campbell County and Altavista. In total, the ministry serves more than 1,100 individuals.
“Because of the virus, we’ve had no fundraisers, so the shoe collection is a fundraiser for us,” said Cheryl Randall.
Cheryl Randall and her husband Larry Randall make up the dynamic duo that founded Candlelight Ministries in 2007. Ministering to the elderly is a passion of theirs.
