The J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library’s Board of Trustees once again has a new member. On Sept. 18, the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors (BOS) voted 3-2 in favor of Madeline Abbitt to represent the Piney Mountain District.
The prior appointed Piney Mountain District representative, Nancy Jo Billings, submitted her resignation on Aug. 30 because of her work schedule in the nursing profession.
Billings had been appointed for the Piney Mountain seat right after it became vacant at the June 21 BOS meeting, where three library board members were removed by the county’s supervisors in response to public controversy involving an LGBTQ book display in the Jamerson Library’s Children’s Section and graphic novels in the Young Adult section.
Abbitt was nominated by Piney Mountain District Supervisor Al Jones III, who said her “skill set would serve the (library) board very well.”
