Appomattox County’s debt numbers were scrutinized at a Sept. 24 town hall meeting during a presentation by Karen Angulo. According to a June 2018 financial report, the county’s total debt (including interest) totaled to $28,064,692.
Based on the 2017 census, the Appomattox County population is 15,681.
In comparison to neighboring counties, Campbell County’s total debt service, according to their financial report, came out to $37,064,631. The population, per 2017 census numbers, is 55,010. With a population that’s about 251 percent higher than Appomattox County, Campbell County’s debt is about 32 percent higher than Appomattox’s.
Prince Edward County’s total debt and interest, according to a 2018 report, totaled to $25,344,180. That’s 10 percent less then Appomattox County’s debt numbers.
With a population of 22,703, according to the 2017 census, Prince Edward’s population numbers are about 44 percent above Appomattox County’s.
