Duane Lawrence Dunn, 55, of Appomattox, was denied bond in a hearing by Judge Andy Nelson at Appomattox County Circuit Court.
Dunn is charged with two felony counts of failing to register as a violent sex offender.
Court records show that Dunn was convicted of aggravated sexual battery in Lynchburg in 1989.
Appomattox County Commonwealth’s Attorney Les Fleet opposed any bond, stating that Dunn was awaiting sentencing in Campbell County for strangulation and domestic assault. Dunn also was an absconder from the law for over a year, according to Fleet.
Dunn’s attorney Scott DeBruin had requested a $2,500 secured bond.
Records show that the Appomattox County charges are set to go to the grand jury April 8.
