U.S. Congressman Bob Good, who represents Virginia's 5th Congressional District, made a campaign stop in Appomattox this morning in his bid to win re-election in 2024.
Good is running against John McGuire in the Republican primary, to be held June 18.
Good's hour-long stop in Appomattox was held at The Art Gallery of New Geneva, on Church Street, where attendance was high enough to pack the gallery room.
Good was joined today by U.S. Congressmen Chip Roy of Texas, Matt Gaetz of Florida and Andy Biggs of Arizona, and Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff under President Donald Trump. All voiced their support for Good's re-election.
U.S. Congressman Andy Harris of Maryland visited Appomattox yesterday, according to Good.
Among the topics that were widely discussed by Good and other speakers today were border security and illegal immigration, the economy, the national debt, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and constitutional liberties.
Good noted the significance of Appomattox and the 5th Congressional District as they pertain to United States history.
"This district is the most historic district in the country. You know who the first congressman was in the 5th District? Just the guy who wrote the Constitution, James Madison, before he went on to become our fourth president," he said.
Good also mentioned historic political figures Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry, who resided in the 5th District.
"Again, this is the district where the nation came together, so what better place for us to say this is where we will make our stand," he said. "This is where we will draw the line and say that the Washington special interests, the 'swamp' who's trying to strike back, the 'swamp' who's trying to make an example of me and to say, 'Hey, you fight to disrupt the status quo, you fight for change in Washington, you dare to remove a speaker who they've anointed, the head of the snake if you will, we're gonna punish you and make an example of you so that others who come behind you won't wanna do what you've done.'"
"But we believe the people of the 5th District are behind us," he added. "We believe that you have our back, and we're fighting for you in Washington."
