The May meeting of the Appomattox Garden Club was held at the home of Terri Conrad on Saturday, May 20. Myrna Clark, a past president of the Appomattox Garden Club as well as a past president of the South Central District, installed the officers for the 2023-2025 term with a gardening theme including packages of seeds. Officers installed were Vice President Mary White, Secretary Carrie Lewis, and Treasurer Jane Coleman.
South Central District President Lou Ann Dumminger presented the Appomattox Garden Club with the First Place Award from the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs for "Decorating Historic Buildings.”
This project won first place at the district level and also the state level as a result of the report, written by Secretary Carrie Lewis, that was submitted and judged. The project was making 42 wreaths with fresh greens and materials authentic to Civil War times to decorate all the buildings at the Appomattox Courthouse Historical Park for their Christmas open house.
