Cowboy weds local girl

Miss Lovella Buchanan, of Appomattox, and Robert Carp, of Great Falls, Montana, were married Monday night at Pamplin, by the Rev. L.N. Duling. Mr. Carp was a popular member of the Rodeo Troupe here with the Appomattox fair last week. They left Monday for Orange, the last fair before the Rodeo goes into winter quarters.

Man arrested after strong-arm robbery

Appomattox County deputies arrested a Lynchburg man, Jerry Marcel Hancock, in connection with a strong-arm robbery in the Appomattox Food Lion parking lot. A juvenile Food Lion employee was leaving work and walking toward her car when she was attacked by a man who struck her, knocked her down and fled with her purse.

Main Street renovation event well-attended

A sizable crowd showed up to witness Appomattox’s Downtown Main Street Celebration and Dedication. The Main Street renovation project involved a major facelift featuring a one-way road, crosswalks, period-style lampposts, waste receptacles and sidewalks.

Agriculture teacher tapped for national award

Appomattox County High School agriculture teacher Edward McCann was awarded the opportunity to attend the annual National Association of Agricultural Educators in Las Vegas. As a recipient of the Teachers Turn the Key award, McCann was awarded a scholarship that covers registration, travel expenses and housing accommodations.

Appomattox SOL scores rank first in region in reading, science

In the Central Virginia region, Appomattox County Public Schools ranked first in Standard of Learning (SOL) test scores in reading, and tied for first in science. SOL scores improved in all areas at the Primary, Elementary and Middle Schools, and in three of five at the High School.
