Several citizens of the Town of Appomattox, youth and adults alike, made their voices heard at the town’s Aug. 10 regular council meeting over a town ordinance that prohibits scooters, bicycles, roller skates or skateboards on streets or sidewalks in town.
The ordinance, which has an amended date of July 14, 1997, became the center of concern among the town’s youth when one of their skateboarding peers was recently approached by a law enforcement officer and given information on the ordinance.
Found in Article I of the Town Code in Chapter 166, Streets and Sidewalks, the ordinance reads as follows:
