Wednesday night's girls basketball game at Appomattox County High School between the Appomattox Raiders and Heritage Pioneers was one that fans of Wild West shootout films would enjoy. The action was intense and aggressive from start to finish, and the winner was determined by one final shot.

In a game with multiple lead changes, the Raiders were down 48-41 with just 1:28 remaining in the fourth quarter - that is, until Georgia Mills aided Appomattox's comeback by sinking two clutch three-pointers, the second one tying the score at 49-49 with approximately 30 seconds to play.

Lexi Miller of Heritage was then fouled while sprinting toward the hoop after an inbound pass and connected on one of two free throw attempts with 18 seconds left.

The Raiders had one final try, keeping possession of the ball on a tie-up with 4.5 seconds to play. After a missed short-range shot inside by Appomattox, Sarai Glover grabbed the offensive rebound and put the ball into the net as the final buzzer sounded to finish off a thrilling contest. The final score was 51-50.

Glover was swarmed by her teammates, and fans from the Raiders student section joined the celebration on the court.
