There will soon be a new alternate truck route in the Town of Appomattox, with new road signs to point the way.

At the Feb. 7 meeting of the Appomttox Town Council, Interim Town Manager Roxanne Casto announced that the plan has been approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Traffic Engineering Department following their completion of a review and recommendations.

The plan will take large truck traffic from Route 727 (Red House Road) coming into town and turn it up Route 1002 (Evergreen Avenue) to Redfields Road (Route 635) and back out to Route 460 Business (Confederate Boulevard), and the opposite for trucks coming from the other direction: Confederate Boulevard to Redfields Road to Evergreen Avenue and then back out to Red House Road.
