Appomattox resident Robert Mott, who was formerly involved as a coach with Appomattox Youth Sports, was diagnosed with liver disease approximately 10 years ago. Mott recently was a patient at Centra Southside Hospital in Farmville but has been transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center in Richmond to be evaluated for a transplant list.
Mott’s fiancé, Theresa, said that his blood type is “O-positive,” and the living liver segment must come from a male donor with any type of “O” blood. The donor should also be a nonsmoker and nondrinker with no serious health issues.
Theresa also said that insurance will pay for the transplant procedure.
