Steven Edward Armsden, 47, of Appomattox, was sentenced to serve three years of incarceration on charges involving sexual relations with a minor. Given credit for time served, two years and two months of the sentence still remain in effect.
On Feb. 10 in Appomattox County Circuit Court, Armsden entered an Alford plea on two felony charges of indecent liberties with a child under age 15 and one felony charge of sodomy: family member to a child.
An Alford plea means that a defendant maintains his or her innocence but agrees that the evidence is substantial enough to result in a guilty verdict if the case were to go to trial.
In addition to the three-year active sentence, which was applied to the sodomy charge, Armsden was given a total of 37 years suspended (10 years each for indecent liberties charge and 17 for sodomy).
Three other felony charges were dropped, including rape by force or threat, object sexual penetration by force, and a second sodomy: family member to a child charge.
