Rail Yard Restaurant & Sports Lounge in Appomattox is currently in its sixth year serving the community signature homemade dishes at its Church Street location.

Rail Yard has breakfast, lunch and dinner options ranging from breakfast platters (with choices of a specific-cooked egg, meat, toast or biscuit) and its well-known “slow cooked” ribs and barbeque. The restaurant’s owner, Mike Ranson, emphasized that the brisket, pulled barbecue and chicken barbecue are his and some of his loyal customers’ choices when visiting the restaurant.

He said the idea to open Rail Yard came into fruition because he needed to make an income, and he needed something to do.

“The best part about owning this business is meeting people,” Ranson said.

The menu includes kids plates, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, soups and salads. The “casual affordable dining experience” welcomes local and visiting guests and treats them as “family.”

Judy Hunter, a resident of Rustburg who stopped to eat at Rail Yard, said, “My dinner was awesome. (I) wasn’t even hungry but ‘hubby’ was. I cleaned my plate!”

The restaurant is currently hiring servers and holds open interviews. Anyone interested should visit the restaurant or call 434-352-8779.
