April showers bring May flowers! May is named after the Roman goddess Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants. Also from the Latin word maiores, meaning “elders,” who were celebrated during this month. May’s birthstone is the emerald and the flower is the Lily of the Valley. Did you know that May is Adopt A Horse Month, Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Get Caught Reading Month, Military Appreciation Month, National Barbecue Month, and National Strawberry Month?
Spring is in full swing, and this is the perfect time to do some spring cleaning. Clear up some of the clutter by donating your unused books, movies, magazines and craft supplies to your local library. We accept these donations with the understanding that if we can’t use the donated supplies, we will sell them, give them away, or turn them into craft-projects-to-go.
On Wednesday, April 19th, the library hosted the Master Gardeners Association of Appomattox for the weekly Story & Craft Time. They featured the book “Caterpillar to Butterfly” by National Geographic and provided all the supplies to make beaded pipe cleaner butterflies and butterfly cereal snacks!
