Five Raiders named to VHSL Class 2 All-State Softball Team; Layne player of the year, Rawes coach of the year

The Virginian High School League (VSHL) named its 2022 Class 2 All-State Softball Team, which includes five members of the Class 2 state champion Appomattox Raiders.

Raiders pitcher Courtney Layne was named the Class 2 Player of the Year. Layne pitched two perfect games last weekend in the state semifinal and championship games.

Raiders head coach Janet Rawes was named Class 2 Coach of the Year. Rawes has guided the squad to two consecutive Class 2 state championship victories and two consecutive undefeated seasons.

Earning VHSL Class 2 First Team All-State honors for Appomattox are:

Courtney Layne (pitcher)

Macee Hargis (first base)

Kelsey Hackett (shortstop)

Haleigh Tweedy (outfield)
