The time has come for the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) to replace their 1990 fire engine. At 30 years old, such a truck could pose a hindrance to public safety.
“At 30 years old, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) suggests that the truck be removed from service at that age,” said Appomattox Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett. “It is just a suggestion, but behind that suggestion there are proven facts as to why they suggest that.”
