Tonight in Charlotte Court House, the Appomattox Darlings Dixie All-Stars softball team was on the brink of losing to Amelia and being forced to play a doubleheader game to determine which team would represent the state of Virginia in the 2019 Dixie World Series next weekend in Alabama.
Down 10-9 with bases loaded in the fifth and final inning, Hallie Vaughan stepped up to the plate for Appomattox. Vaughan belted a waist-high pitch for a base hit, driving in two runs to capture the state trophy and send her team to Alabama with an 11-10 victory.
On the play, Kollyns Almond scored from third base, and then Willow Harris slid under the tag attempt at home plate for the winning run.
The state championship is reportedly the first in Appomattox Darlings softball history.
