On Monday evening during a Special Called Meeting, the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to dissolve the existing Appomattox County Social Services Board and replace it with a local board consisting of the county administrator with an advisory board.
The decision is in response to what the county board describes in its public statement as “written complaints and findings received concerning the local Department of Social Services.”
The nature of those complaints and findings was not shared at Monday’s meeting. However, it was revealed that during closed session of the July regular county board meeting, the county board met with Appomattox Commonwealth’s Attorney Les Fleet and Appomattox County Sheriff Robby Richardson to discuss those matters.
In the public statement, the county board states that it is “taking proactive measures to address some of the documented information from citizens, clients, local agencies, and legal representatives that were communicated to us, the Governing Body of this County.”
