A gathering of supporters and officials assembled at the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday as the station unveiled its new Fire Engine 1 to the community.

On Dec. 3, the two-year project culminated with the arrival of the long awaited truck. It replaces the department’s 30-year-old truck, which has now been donated to the Samburg-Reelfoot Volunteer Fire Department, a tornado-stricken fire department in Hornbeak, Tennessee.

Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett acknowledged the town and county of Appomattox and the public for their commitment and donations in obtaining this truck. He thanked the community for their support over the past two years. The community stepped up in a “big way” with their outpouring for this piece of equipment.
