The American Civil War Museum in Appomattox is hosting a series of activities and programs as part of the regional celebration of the Commemoration of the Surrender & Freedom on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitors can look forward to a fun-filled day with cannon firings, interactive sessions with living historians, demonstrations by the Pallas Athena Ladies Aid Society, and informative sessions about the lives of soldiers, civilians on the homefront, and enslaved and free African Americans during the Civil War.
The American Civil War Museum in Appomattox is located at 159 Horseshoe Road, Appomattox.
Schedule of Events
10:30 to 11 a.m.: Cannon Demo & Firing
11 a.m. to noon: The African American Experience with the 5th U.S.C.T. Company G Presenters
12:30 to 1:30 p.m.: Reenactor Skirmish — Witness a skirmish between the 24th Virginian and the 99th New York Infantry
2 to 3 p.m.: “Reconsidering Longstreet: Gettysburg, Appomattox, New Orleans” with Dr. Elizabeth Varon (included in Museum Admission)
3:30 to 4:30 p.m.: The African American Experience with the 5th U.S.C.T. Company G Presenters
4:30 to 5 p.m.: Cannon Demo & Firing followed by stacking of arms
